The three elements of a strong SEO strategy

  • by

As the world moves towards online buying, many transactions happen without any human interaction between the customer and the company. In 2019, 1.92 billion people purchased goods or services online and we can assume this trend continued as companies pivoted to online sales during the COVID-19 pandemic. With online sales becoming the norm, creating online experiences similar to what customers can experience in-store will soon be the difference between success and failure.

First, can your customers find you online?

Business owners know location matters when it comes to setting up shop. This rule still applies to your website. Customers are less likely to purchase from your business if they can’t find it. As search engines modify their search results page, it’s becoming increasingly important to show up at the #1 search listing. Ranking high in google searches increases your credibility with customers. Needless to say, if your page isn’t showing up as the first entry in a google search of your name, you might want to consider investing time and money in increasing your SEO.

What is SEO?

SEO, or Search Engine Optimization, is the process of optimizing your website and building a web presence to increase your company’s ranking on search engines. Developing a solid SEO strategy includes backlinking, keyword research/content, and on-site SEO.

Backlinking:

Backlinking is when external websites are pointing to your site.

According to SEO expert Neil Patel, search engines in 2021 are rewarding companies who build organic backlinks. For years Google has discouraged companies from purchasing backlinks and now they’re rewarding websites for slow organic growth. Patel recommends letting content sit for 3–4 months before starting manual outreach and building backlinks.

When developing a backlink strategy, here are some examples of low hanging fruit to consider:

  1. Online directories
  2. Sponsorship opportunities
  3. Guest contributors
  4. Partnerships

Keywords Research/Website Content:

Keyword research is the process of finding and analyzing the words people search relating to your business. Building out the list of keywords helps your company create content your customers are looking for at different times of the year. Providing content related to those keywords helps increase your SEO while creating value for your customer and building trust. When thinking about what type of content to include, consider what your customer likes to consume and play around with blogs, videos, and audio to see what works best.

On-Page SEO:

There are several things you can do on your website to improve your SEO rankings. Think about renaming and including keywords in the metadata when uploading images, documents, and writing titles. Adding internal links, where one page links to another, not only helps your customers access the content on your page, it helps search engines map out your page as well. These intentional changes will affect how the search engines see your page, increasing your chances of being listed on the first page of a google search.

In conclusion…

SEO is a helpful strategy for building trust and credibility with your clients. By having a strong SEO strategy in place, it will help improve your website’s chances of being found — increasing traffic to your website and the opportunity to build credibility and a budding relationship with your customers.
